Classic Frames are back at Dr. Gary Tracy's office

In recent months there’s been a resurgence of interest in classic frames from decades past: small antique-like metal frames; rimless and semi-rimless styles; simple rectangular shapes in tortoise colors; and yes, the P3 (semi-round) frames popularized by John Lennon.

I’ve found several companies specializing in these great “old-school” frames, including some of the original manufacturers. Now in stock:

  • Schnuchel – Exceptional, handcrafted frames to order. German workmanship and rich tortoise colors set these frames apart.
  • Europtic – Classic-shaped frames with rich tortoise colors.
  • Color in Optics – An old friend — one of my best-selling companies in the 1970′s and 1980′s, known for popular shapes and wonderful colors.
  • Cutler and Gross – Very bold, very English, with heavy blonde and dark tortoise colors.
  • L’Unique (Zip+Homme) – Exquisite, high-quality frames in stunning colors. One of our best-selling lines.
  • Anglo American – A venerable British company that continues to make their original classic frames. We could always count on Anglo American for classics when other companies had stopped making them.
  • MicroShapes – A stylish frame for smaller faces. Also an excellent choice for very strong prescriptions.
  • Allyn Scura – California-based company with modern versions of classic frames. Very popular in movies — we get many inquiries from customers looking for the frame worn by Johnny Depp in Secret Window.
